Editorial Writing: "Panera Bread's racist, sexist practices warrant boycott"

When a Panera Bread franchise in the Pittsburgh area was sued for discriminatory practices, I wrote this editorial to highlight the lawsuit and to call on the Carnegie Mellon community to boycott the franchise. In the piece, I interwove quotes from the lawsuit with my own personal experiences with the franchise in order to create an interesting and compelling argument.

The article received over 30,000 views online; for comparison, The Tartan's entire website only usually receives about 8,000 views per week. One of Carnegie Mellon's departments also contacted me to let me know that they would no longer be using Panera Bread to cater events.

Book Review: "Local writers spin dark stories"

When I wrote this book review of the short story collection Pittsburgh Noir, I analyzed both the quality of the individual stories and the quality of the anthology. I also included a detailed explanation of the noir genre, since its conventions may have been unfamiliar to many in The Tartan's audience.

Feature Writing: "Carnegie Mellon students creep their way to fame"

This is a feature article published in The Tartan entitled “Carnegie Mellon students creep their way to fame.” It relates the story of two Carnegie Mellon freshmen who gained national attention over their YouTube video, “What is the Creep.”
